This project is a partnership between Menter Môn, Arloesi Gwynedd Wledig, Gwynedd Council, Enterprise Hub and Arfor Initiative.

Ffiws is essentially a collaborative ‘maker space’ which makes available tools, equipment and technology at different locations across Gwynedd and Anglesey. It started as a pilot in an empty shop in Porthmadog, but has proved such a hit there are now eight sites across Gwynedd and Anglesey, with more opening soon.

The idea is based on developing places where people can be creative using specialist tools such as 3D printers and vinyl and laser cutters. The initiative is also trying to change attitudes to repairing broken items and belongings – which can be anything from toys to old bikes. Instead of throwing things away, it hopes to improve people’s skills and develop innovative ways of reusing and recycling old items.

Ffiws maker space is a great example of how LEADER funding has led to a long-term project that has really captured the imagination of those who use it, and is one which is going from strength to strength. And while this project falls under Menter Môn’s technology and business portfolio, it reflects several of the company’s core values in terms of our environmental work, promoting entrepreneurship and creating prosperous and viable communities.
