The Silver Slashers are a great example of a self-sustaining volunteering group working to improve public footpaths on and around Anglesey. They have undertaken various maintenance work of our public footpaths over the last ten years and continue to do so on a weekly basis, having established a successful collaboratively working relationship with Isle of Anglesey County Council, Rights of Way Team.
One of main challenges facing the group is recruiting younger volunteers, since the average age of the group at present is 74.
Cwlwm seiriol went along to one of the group’s volunteering activities during 2018 to learn more about the work being undertaken, the individuals involved and to learn what motivates them all to undertake the work.
We hope to replicate a similar group within Cwlwm Seiriol, replicating the model of the silver slashers. During 2019 we will also aim to work with the group on maintenance work within the Seiriol ward, with the aim of recruiting more volunteers.
