Menter Iaith Môn, Menter Môn’s Welsh Language Initiative will be working in collaboration with the Isle of Anglesey County Council on Iaith Môn, a brand new Community Renewal Fund project.
The fund aims to support people and communities with the greatest needs across the UK, creating opportunities to trial new approaches and innovative ideas at a local level.
The project will offer up to £5000 to community groups in Anglesey towards promoting and facilitating the Welsh language within their work. The Anglesey Community Grant is available to: Social Enterprises, Community Groups, Community Councils, Executive Committees and similar community groups.
This is an opportunity for all aspects of community groups to take advantage of the support available to ensure that they have the capacity and access to what they need to flourish in a bilingual society.
With most people, organizations and companies having faced difficulties throughout the pandemic, this is an opportunity to regain support and continue to develop by preserving and promoting the Welsh language at the same time.
Virginia Crosbie MP said: “I would like to thank Menter Môn for this excellent initiative that will do so much to boost community involevment on our island and promote Welsh language, skills and culture. We have many groups unique to our island and this money will be a big boost to them.
A major aim must be to keep the Welsh language flourishing. We are lucky to have such a strong cultural identity and these grants can only help.”
Elen Hughes, Menter Iaith Môn’s Chief Officer added: “We’re very pleased to deliver a grant scheme that priorities our communities here in Ynys Môn. One of Menter Môn’s main objectives is to help create prosperous communities on the Island, and promoting and preserving the Welsh language and heritage is a core responsibility.
Of course the Welsh language is an integral part of our identity. Therefore, by supporting a wide range of community groups such as event committees, local newspapers, community led ventures etc, we’re confident that the Island’s identity and values will naturally be supported.”
