This week a brand-new fund will be launched in Gwynedd which aims to boost the county’s communities through promoting grassroots schemes. Financial support will be available for groups and orgniastions to realise projects for community benefit.

A project led by Menter Môn with the collaboration of Cymunedoli Cyf, funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, Grymuso Gwynedd offers support and funding of up to £10k and £15k towards various schemes. Each scheme is expected to generate community benefit and develop local resources, promote the Welsh language and local identity as well as support activities that will benefit the area. There will be special consideration on increasing capacity across the county, from Meirionnydd to Abergwyngregyn.

Project Manager, Betsan Siencyn, explains: “We are encouraging groups and organisations to contact us to express their interest in being part of this exciting project. We will be emphasising schemes that fall within three distinct themes, namely interpreting local identity; developing services that promote people’s well-being; and developing community assets.”

Staff at Menter Môn and Cymunedoli Cyf. offer support for entities to realise their schemes.

Betsan adds: “We want to give communities the best chance of developing their own solutions to the challenges they face. We are very keen to see areas that have no existing support, or very little support, working with us to empower their communities, and resolve challenges on the ground.”

Menter Môn is calling on any organisation or group interested in delivering a project for community benefit to contact them to discuss their ideas. Further information and details on how to apply can be found on the Grymuso Gwynedd page of the Menter Môn website, with the scheme encouraging people to apply and benefit from this exciting opportunity. There will be application windows every month from now on, until all the budget has been allocated. The closing date of the first application window is 8 November, 2023.

The project has received £1.1m from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, with financial support also from Magnox on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
